It’s always difficult for people in professions like service design, UX, CX… to explain what they do. And the same goes for Business Design.

For a long time, I responded in different ways every time someone asked me this question. In a way, I was testing if a particular explanation resonated with people, but I never found myself using an explanation more than once.

Sometimes explaining took much longer than I intended, getting more complicated, and leaving people even more confused.

That’s why I really liked the challenge when a colleague sent out an email asking for our own version of defining Business design in a tweet. In 140 chars back in those days.

After giving it some thought and going through some iterations, here’s my version.

Business design is using human-centric design approach and tools to solve business challenges, and to create new strategies, services, ventures…

Of course, it’s not sufficient to explain all aspects of business design but I believe it’s quite inclusive and simple.

How about you, what’s your take on this? How would you describe business design in a tweet?
